PRODUCT QUESTIONS

Questions worth answering.

What is a credit?

A prepaid unit of processing. One credit covers one started minute of transcription, or 1,000 characters of subtitle text for translation. Timing lines and cue numbers are not counted. For exact counts, Cue adds up the parsed cue text and measures it as JavaScript string length, so the total follows UTF-16 code units rather than bytes or graphemes.

What is free?

Signing up gives you 5 free credits. Editing, importing subtitle files without translation, and all exports are free, and the demo needs no account at all.

How do I know what a job will cost?

The upload screen states the rule that applies to your file, and your balance sits beside it. Every charge appears in Credits and usage with the project label, so you can check the history any time.

Do credits expire?

Purchased credits do not expire while the service operates.

Do I get free credits more than once?

The welcome grant is added once per account.

What happens if a job fails?

The reserved credits come back once. You do not pay for a failed job.

Is there a subscription?

No. You buy a pack once and use it when you need it.

Is translating a subtitle file cheaper than transcribing audio?

It depends on the recording and on the file, so there is no single answer. One illustration, when you already have the subtitle file: a 12-minute episode costs 24 credits to transcribe and translate from audio, while translating a file containing 5,000 characters of subtitle text costs 5 credits.

Can I buy credits before I am sure about Cue?

You do not have to. Try the editor without an account, or sign up for 5 free credits to process your own file within that balance. Top up only when you need more credits.

What about refunds?

Refund rights required by law are unaffected. For a payment issue, use the support details on your Polar receipt.

Where do I top up?
